Truly Cares, Inc. is committed to providing immediate, compassionate, and person-centered emergency care for individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises. We operate as a specialized behavioral health emergency care center, open 24/7/365, to offer a safe, therapeutic, and welcoming environment for stabilization. Our mission is to divert individuals from traditional emergency rooms, unnecessary hospitalizations, and potential incarceration by ensuring rapid access to psychiatrists, nurses, clinicians, and peer support specialists.
Through integrated partnerships with the 988 National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, mobile crisis teams, community providers, and Prince George’s County agencies, Truly Cares ensures that every individual receives comprehensive, dignified, and culturally responsive care. We connect our guests to appropriate follow-up treatment, supportive services, and community resources to promote long-term recovery and wellness.
As part of the effort to end the longstanding “mental healthcare desert” in Prince George’s County, Truly Cares is dedicated to expanding access to high-quality crisis stabilization services and strengthening the community’s behavioral health safety net.
Truly Cares envisions a community where every person experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis can access immediate, compassionate care any time, without barriers. Through our 24/7 crisis stabilization center and coordinated transportation to and from care, we ensure individuals are met with dignity, safety, and support, and connected to the services they need to heal and thrive.
Truly Cares, Inc. envisions a Maryland where every individual experiencing a behavioral health crisis has immediate access to compassionate, high-quality stabilization services in a safe, welcoming, community-based environment. We strive to build a coordinated, equitable, and innovative crisis response system that eliminates barriers to care, reduces reliance on emergency rooms, and supports long-term recovery and resilience for all.
Truly Cares, Inc. was founded with a simple but powerful belief: every person in crisis deserves immediate, compassionate care and a safe place to begin healing. As a nonprofit organization rooted in service to the community, we are committed to restoring hope where systems have fallen short and ensuring that no individual has to navigate a behavioral health emergency alone.
When the Dyer Care Center first opened its doors, it marked a historic moment in Maryland as the first dedicated mental health crisis stabilization center of its kind in the state. In its brief 8–9 months of operation, Dyer laid an important foundation by showing what was possible: fast, trauma-informed behavioral health support outside of hospital emergency rooms. Though the center eventually closed due to circumstances beyond its mission, its impact resonated deeply throughout Prince George’s County and beyond.
Truly Cares was born from that legacy. We see the work Dyer started not as a finished chapter, but as a torch waiting to be picked up again, a promise to the community that compassionate mental health care can and must be accessible 24/7. Our mission is to rebuild, strengthen, and expand upon the path Dyer paved, creating a modern, sustainable crisis stabilization program designed to serve individuals with dignity, respect, and cultural understanding.
Where Dyer initiated change, Truly Cares will carry it forward with stronger infrastructure, expanded services, community partnerships, and a commitment to long-term stability. Our vision is to create a crisis center that not only meets immediate needs, but also guides individuals toward ongoing care, recovery, and hope.
This time, the vision will not fade.
This time, the foundation will be built to last.
Truly Cares is here to continue the work Maryland began and to ensure no one in crisis ever has to walk alone.
